Oklahoma food handler safety training is necessary for employees in the food service and hospitality industry. Food Handler Course Description
The Food Handler Training course will discuss the various food safety issues, regulations, and techniques needed to maintain a food-safe environment. It will help the student better understand how handling food correctly is not only the law, but it improves safety and reduces risks.
At the conclusion of the course, the learner will be tested on their knowledge of the learning objectives and content. Upon successfully passing the exam, the learner will be issued a Food Handler’s Certificate document (or card).
Audience: Chefs, cooks, mobile food vendors, bartenders, host/hostesses that handle food, bussers, caterers, wait staff,servers, supervisors and managers, food warehouse staff, and convenience store (c-store) clerks.
Credit Hours: 2 hrs
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of the Food Handler Training Course students will be able to:
- Identify food safety: its importance, goals, benefits, impact, and proper adherence
- Identify the importance food safety training: issues, regulations, and techniques to maintain a food-safe environment
- Identify the types of foodborne illness and food spoilage and their causes and signs
- Identify the types of food contamination: biological, physical and chemical
- Enact the proper food temperature controls and time practices
- Enact the proper procedures to safely prepare, handle and store food
- Implement proper personal hygiene and health practices in the food workplace
- Implement the proper procedures of purchasing, receiving and storing food
- Enact proper cleaning and sanitation methods in the food workplace
- Identify the signs and enact the eradication procedures for pest infestation

End of Course Test – Print Your Food Handler Training Certificate
As soon as you complete the food handler course – with a minimum seat time of 75 minutes – you will then be required to take the End of Course Test
With a minimum passing score of 75% on the test, you will be able to download and print your food handler training certificate of completion.
Individuals who do not pass the food handler training test on the first attempt will be allowed one additional attempt to review the course content and pass the test.
Renewing Your Food Handler Certificate
To renew your Food Handler Certification, you must complete the food handler training course again. The entire course must be generally taken every three years to renew your certificate. However, in a few local jurisdictions this may vary, so make sure to check with your local health authority.

Tulsa County and Oklahoma City have Food Manager Certification requirements.
Altus, Lawton, Moore, Norman, Tulsa, and other municipalities have Food Handler requirements.
Tulsa County:
As of November 1, 2007, House Bill 1804 went into effect stating that anyone attending a food handler class or applying for a manager’s certificate from the Tulsa Health Department must sign a statement that they are either (1) a United States citizen, or (2) a qualified alien under the federal Immigration & Nationality Act and are lawfully present in the United States.

Food Managers: To receive a Manager’s Certification, you must successfully complete a training program. After completing a training program, you must register your manager certificate with the Tulsa Health Department (THD).
Food Handlers: All area food service employees must have an original, valid food handler permit from the THD in their possession while at work. To receive a permit, you must successfully complete a THD Food Handler Class or other approved training. Food Handler Permits are non-transferable. The fee for the permit is $10.00, cash only. Upon passing the test, you will receive a photo-identification Food Handler Permit. Food Handler Permits must be available at all times while the employee is working. The Health Department inspector will not accept a photocopy. Additional duplicate permits are available for a fee of $5.00.
Oklahoma City-County:
Food Managers:
Food Service Operator Certification is required in the municipalities of Oklahoma City, Edmond, Midwest City, Warr Acres, Spencer, The Village, Nichols Hills, Harrah and Del City. This Certification is a manager’s level certification. Each food service establishment is required to have at least one certified Food Service Operator.

Food Handler:
Food Handler Training of all employees is not required in Oklahoma County or the municipalities contained within Oklahoma County. Currently only Food Manager Training is required. If your facility or organization is interested in basic Food Handler Training, we can conduct a basic training for your group. We do not issue food handler cards, but can issue a certificate of attendance if it is needed to document training for your organization.

A. It is unlawful for any person who operates a food service establishment or any place selling open and prepared foods in the city to hire, or permit to be hired, or permit to work gratis, any person who does not possess a current and unrevoked permit approved by the health officer.
B. It is unlawful for any person to work in any food service establishment or any place selling open and prepared foods in the city who does not have in his or her possession a current and unrevoked permit approved by the county.
